Alexandre Lauzon: The Art of Versatility
Calling this story “The Bearded Man in Charge” might have been too easy. But Alexandre Lauzon’s striking, well-kept beard is often the first thing people notice. Still, there’s much more to him than facial hair. At Centre Multisports, he is a group class instructor, floor coach, and, more than ever, a multiskilled technician.
A Champion Wrestler
Alexandre’s journey to Centre Multisports is anything but ordinary. A two-time provincial wrestling champion, passionate about rugby and weightlifting, he arrived at the Centre when he was just 19, even before its official opening.
“Back in high school, I hardly ever brought homework home,” he admits.
“I couldn’t stay focused unless it was exciting. But I loved sports. I was always tired—but I couldn’t get enough of it.”
Born to a father with a master’s degree in sports performance and a mother who swam for her country at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, Alexandre grew up in a household where physical activity was second nature.
Over the years, he’s worn many hats at the Centre: Ninja course coach, a familiar face on the Multisport Caravan that tours Vaudreuil-Soulanges, summer camp leader, climbing wall supervisor, Gym Perfo instructor, and even program administration support.
“This place has always felt like home,” he says.
“I love learning, I’m always reading. But I need to apply things right away or they feel too abstract.”
Training Through Play
Thanks to his many roles (and probably his beard), Alexandre Lauzon is one of the Centre’s most recognized and appreciated faces. Even on his days off, regulars spot him training hard in the gym.
“I need to move every day, or I start feeling sluggish,” he says.
“I need to push myself to feel balanced. That’s what I loved about wrestling and rugby. Now, I do Olympic lifting at Gym Perfo, where everything relies on explosive movement. I guess it’s like skydiving—you chase the adrenaline.”
Known for creating fun but demanding workouts, Alexandre is regarded as the gentle giant—attentive to everyone and quick to help.
“Kids love challenges,” he says.
“Adults, we like comfort. That’s why I like shaking things up in my classes—to make people confront their limits. If you’re not growing, you’re standing still.”
With a background in working with children, Alexandre brings an element of play to his training sessions. Having coached people from overtrained athletes to total beginners, he always puts fun before performance:
“I want people to realize they can do more than they think—and that moving your body can actually become a hobby. If it’s fun, it’s not a chore. Just come and play—even if it’s tough!”
This is how Alexandre Lauzon spreads his training philosophy every day at Centre Multisports.
