Members of the ZVP-Opto Réseau cycling club continue to rack up podium finishes in Quebec races. First, in mountain biking at the Rigaud XC race, four of our members won medals:
- Atom boys (U11); Félix Lamontagne, 1st
- Peewee boys (U13): Mathéo Borduas, 3rd
- Minime girls (U15): Anaïs Koszegi, 3rd
- Minime boys (U15): Louis Lafond, 3rd
In addition to Anaïs Koszegi and Louis Lafond in the Minimes, Cadets Julien Lamarre, Nicolas Montpetit, and Julien Koszegi successfully completed their first qualifying round for the Provincial Finals of the Jeux du Québec in Thetford Mines. On the road, first in Laprairie on May 12th, William Bourbonnais of the Peewee team won in a sprint, with Jonathan Hinse finishing second. On Sunday in Laval for a Challenge Lacasse event, two events were on the program: an individual time trial and a criterium. In the first event, William Bourbonnais once again edged Jonathan Hinse, but in the afternoon, the latter got his revenge in the sprint by finishing first ahead of... William Bourbonnais. Since the start of the season, these two riders have dominated the peloton, trading first and second places in every race!
Still in Laval, Clovis Roy of the Minimes team won his second time trial of the season after the one in Granby the previous week. In the afternoon, he finished second, not without having overtaken (!) the peloton with another rider. Based on his results, Clovis earned first place in the day's cumulative standings and is now in 6th place overall in the Challenge Lacasse standings after five races.
On May 30th, the club is hosting the Southwest Regional Road Cycling Final in Rigaud. It will be a 5km individual time trial for the Peewee, a 10km individual time trial for the Minimes and Cadets, and a 15km individual time trial for the Junior, Senior, and Master categories. The course will take place along Chemin du Petit Brûlé in Rigaud (150 meters west of the ski resort), and the first start is scheduled for 6 p.m. Registration is $10 for all categories. A one-day license is required for participants who are not members of the FQSC.
The ZVP-Opto Réseau Club is open to road and mountain runners in the categories Bibitte (8 years old) to Masters (30 years old and over).
