Coach at Tri-O-Lacs: Inspiring All Generations to Move
Founded in 2002, the Tri-O-Lacs triathlon club combines five disciplines into one vibrant organization: triathlon, duathlon, swimming, cycling, and running. The club is active 11 months a year and is known for one major strength—its family-oriented spirit. Open to everyone from beginners to elite athletes, from ages 5 to 77, Tri-O-Lacs is a true community hub for endurance sports in the region.
Since 2009, Éric Prégent has been coaching at Tri-O-Lacs, where he leads adult training groups, focusing especially on beginners in cycling and running. He’s also the race director for the popular Défi Tri-O-Lacs.
What’s Your Greatest Satisfaction as a Coach?
“Sharing my passion and helping people conquer their first challenge,” says Prégent. “I take great pleasure in encouraging athletes to push themselves and be proud of what they achieve.”
Why Is Triathlon Good for Me?
There’s no age limit to start triathlon, cycling, or running. With the right training and support, anyone can do it—and Tri-O-Lacs provides the ideal environment for your journey.
Something You Might Not Know About This Sport
Tri-O-Lacs was born from a spark of interest among students at Sainte-Madeleine Elementary School during the region’s very first school triathlon. From that modest beginning, it has grown into one of the largest family-friendly triathlon clubs in Quebec. It has received numerous awards from Triathlon Québec for its excellence and diversity.
What’s Your Wish for the Coming Months?
“I’d love to see more beginners take the plunge,” says Prégent. “And for me personally, I’m aiming to run a half marathon!”
