Not everyone feels excited about group classes. In fact, they can be intimidating for some!
Here are a few tips that will hopefully make you want to give them a try—because believe it or not, group fitness classes can be incredibly fun!
Find the right class for you
Choose a type of workout that suits your preferences: cardio or strength training? Consider your experience level as well to ensure you’re comfortable.
Be prepared
Wear appropriate workout clothes and bring a good pair of athletic shoes. Being dressed for the activity will boost your confidence and comfort.
Reserve your spot
Once you've selected a class, make sure to book your spot. That way, you’re guaranteed a place and less likely to back out at the last minute.
Bring a friend
Walking into a room full of strangers can be daunting. If you're nervous about trying something new alone, invite a friend to join you.
Talk to the instructor
You’re new and eager to get in shape! Let the instructor know before the class starts. They can offer modifications and help you feel more at ease.
Don’t hide in the back
Avoid standing at the very back of the room—you’ll miss out on valuable cues. Opt for the second or third row for a better view of the instructor.
Listen to the music
One of the best parts of group fitness is moving to the beat! Let yourself enjoy the rhythm—it makes the workout more energizing.
Don’t take yourself too seriously
This may be the most important advice. Relax and have fun! Don’t worry if you can’t follow every move. Like most things, it takes time to build coordination and muscle memory.
Enjoy the moment!
