No More Excuses: Get Moving Today!

I've heard every excuse imaginable for not exercising. But the truth is, there's always a way to move your body.

Here are practical solutions to the most common excuses for skipping workouts:

1. I Don’t Have the Right Equipment

“I forgot my workout shoes,” “My gym bag is at home,” or “I can’t work out at home because I don’t have the equipment.”

The solution: Be prepared! Keep a pair of workout shoes in your car. Pack a gym bag with a full set of workout clothes and leave it at work. And remember—your body is your best fitness tool. Use your body weight to train.

2. It’s Raining

“It’s too cold,” “It’s too hot,” or “It’s raining.” Extreme weather is part of life in Québec—but we also enjoy some beautiful days. Embrace the conditions and keep moving!

The solution: If outdoor exercise isn’t an option, there are plenty of free online workout videos and virtual fitness programs available. You can train from the comfort of your own home.

3. I Don’t Have Access to a Gym

“I can’t afford a gym membership” or “I don’t like going to the gym.” Who says you need a gym to stay active?

The solution: Get creative. You can turn household items into fitness tools—water bottles, books, canned goods… almost anything works.

4. I Need to Lose Weight First

“I’m going on a diet first, then I’ll start exercising,” or “I want to lose weight before going to the gym.” This is one of the most common—and frustrating—excuses.

The solution: Don’t wait to lose weight. That’s not how it works. Exercise supports weight loss. Set small, achievable goals and stay committed. The weight loss will come as a bonus.

5. Injuries

“I sprained my ankle, so I can’t work out,” or “My shoulder hurts, so I can’t lift weights.” See a doctor if you're injured or in pain—you may need medical care.

The solution: Focus on what you can do. If your shoulder hurts, go for a walk. If your knees are bothering you, try swimming. Use whatever part of your body is working—there’s always a way to stay active.

6. I Don’t Have Time

“I have kids. I don’t have time to work out,” or “I can’t spend two hours at the gym.”

The solution: Use your time wisely. Any time you invest in exercise is worthwhile. A quick 30-minute session in the morning is better than doing nothing. Walk the dog. Play with your kids at the park.

Exercise doesn’t have to disrupt your life—it can fit right into it. Set realistic goals, and you won’t need excuses.
