Reflection: Welcome Back, Beautiful Spring!

It’s not just the temperature that's rising—the energy in our bodies is making a comeback too, and that’s a good thing! We can feel it: we’re ready to move more.

That said, many of us became more sedentary over the winter, and the temptation to pick up where we left off in the fall is strong. But rushing back into our old fitness routine often leads to injuries that can derail our spring comeback. With that in mind, here are my 5 tips for an active and injury-free spring!

1 – Push the limits? Yes… but carefully

We feel ambitious—ready to jump on the bike, head out for a run, or join a softball league. But think of your body like a tool that's been sitting in the garage: it needs to be cleaned up and tuned before use. Unless you've trained consistently all winter, don’t expect to be in top shape from day one.

Start slow and build gradually. Spring is notorious for injuries caused by doing too much too fast. Ease back into your routine and take time to inspect your gear—maybe it’s time to tune up the bike or retire those worn-out running shoes.

2 – Keep your gym membership active!

Every spring, we’re tempted to abandon the gym and head outdoors. And while enjoying nature is essential, your gym remains a valuable ally—especially on rainy days.

Staying committed to the gym also helps you keep variety in your routine: mix in a group class, some weight training, or cardio sessions to stay motivated and balanced.

3 – Make time to relax

Spring is a powerful season of renewal. Longer days and increased sun exposure naturally restore our Vitamin D levels and boost our mood. Make the most of this season by slowing down too: go for walks, enjoy the fresh air (a great natural stress reliever), unplug from screens, and prioritize restful sleep.

Your muscles need time to recover just as much as they need exercise.

4 – Exercise = Happiness

We always talk about the physical benefits of sports, but exercise also makes us happier. When you work out, your body releases endorphins, those feel-good chemicals that lift your spirits and relax you. Dopamine also kicks in, boosting alertness and energy.

So yes, spring is the perfect time to recharge your energy levels—and your mood!

5 – Make (spring) resolutions!

Personally, I believe spring—not January 1st—is the best time to make resolutions. It’s when our energy returns and our mindset shifts.

Use this seasonal boost to set real, motivating goals: sign up for a race, drop a few pounds, or get back into healthier habits that may have slipped during winter. Define your goal, build a plan or a training calendar, and go for it!

This is your moment to get back on track and truly enjoy everything spring has to offer.

Happy spring and happy training!
