Bio-impedancemetry is a body composition test where a low intensity alternating current measures the opposition of the current (resistance) when it encounters certain tissues, such as bone, fat or muscle tissue.
There are several factors to consider before the test. Metal or electronic objects should not be worn or put on during the test. The test is done barefoot and with as little clothing as possible. Objects of a metallic nature are not dangerous, but can greatly affect test results. Additional layers of clothing add to your Total Weight and may cause your results to vary. The time you decide to take your test will also have a major impact on your results. Ideally, the test is done on an empty stomach, early in the morning. It is important to take into consideration the time at which the test was done in order to be able to compare your future results. Each food or drink ingested during your day can vary the result of the machine.
Once the test is completed, you will receive a sheet where you will find several information, including:
Your total weight, separated into:
This test is like any other test. It gives us very specific information about a variable affected by training. That said, if you have a goal related to a change in body composition, the bio-impedance machine gives you much more information than a scale! The bio-impedance machine can also allow us to have several information, the level of your overall health, inflammation and symmetry at the level of your segments. If you’re anxious about your body composition or aren’t interested in numbers, you don’t have to! However, the information on this test can be useful for the kinesiologist who, in professional secrecy, can use this tool to ensure your health and your progress.
