With departure and arrival from the Mont Rigaud Ski Center
The Centre Multisports André-Chagnon is pleased to announce the first edition of the Gran Fondo ZVP, which will be held on June 17. With departure and arrival from the Mont Rigaud ski center, this event will offer three different distances: 160km and 80km on the road, as well as a 100km on gravel road. Participants will have the opportunity to discover the magnificent hilly roads of Soulanges and Eastern Ontario.
Gilles Besner, General Manager of the Centre Multisports André-Chagnon and responsible for the organization, is proud of the routes that will be offered, “Participants will take quiet roads with very rolling roads and several long sections with a nice shoulder. And participants in the 100km on gravel roads will discover the very pleasant little roads that you never take by car or bike. It gives you a completely different perspective of the region.”
The Gran Fondo ZVP is above all a friendly and non-competitive event open to all categories of cyclists, including electric bikes. The routes will be fully marked, with relays offering water/drinks and food to participants. “And for those looking for a bit of a challenge, there will be a timed section for road courses. Obviously, people with a VAE will not appear in the ranking, “says Gilles Besner.
The Gran Fondo ZVP is organized for the benefit of the ZVP Opto-Réseau Cycling Club, which works to develop young cyclists in the region. “We have a very good development structure and many of our riders are part of the Quebec and soon to be Canadian elite. To continue to progress to the highest levels, they must participate in races that are bigger and bigger, but also further and further. Costs are rising and that puts a brake on their ambitions. We have to help them,” says the organizer.
This is why he appeals to the many cyclists of the Suroît region to participate in the event. “We are happy to organize this great cycling event in the region and the members of the club, particularly our young athletes, will be at the start and will accompany the groups”. Registration will also include a delicious lunch and a beer from the Microbrasserie Le Castor, upon arrival.
The Gran Fondo ZVP is a major event for cycling enthusiasts and for anyone who wants to enjoy a great day outdoors. The registration cost is $85 before May 21 and increases to $110 until June 4, the closing date for registration. We invite you to register now on our website.
