Beach volleyball at de la Paix park
In a few days, the first attacks and bump passes will be given at de la Paix park in Vaudreuil-Dorion as a new beach volleyball season kicks off. For a third year, the Multisports Center is joining forces with qualified professionals from the region to offer volleyball camps to young enthusiasts and beginners. In addition to the spring and summer camps, the site on the shores of Vaudreuil Bay will once again offer competitive play within its women’s, men’s and mixed leagues.
Register online now to complete the groups who will soon be exchanging the ball on one of the four courts of the enchanting site where the magnificent skateboard park is also located. Three spring camps await players, boys and girls, and as many summer camps: the Initiation camp (12 to 14 years old), the Development camp (12 to 16 years old) and the Elite/Espoir camp (15 years old and over).
Marie-Louise Gareau, one of the coaches in charge of beach volleyball, tells what awaits young people registered at one of the camps: “We approach beach volleyball through play, we really enjoy playing. We start with the basics of volleyball. Many started with indoor volleyball and now want to try volleyball here. It’s a nice springboard.”
A 6th grade teacher and volleyball coach for more than 10 years, Marie-Louise Gareau wants to share her passion with as many people as possible. If some doubt that they are not up to the task, she specifies that the initiation section is especially aimed at the curious who would like to learn more about this sport which is gaining in popularity. To neophytes, beach volleyball may seem like a light sport that is practiced for fun, nothing more. But for any athlete, recalls the coach, it is a beneficial sport in their development: “Beach volleyball is complementary and beneficial, both for an athlete who wants to continue indoors or an athlete who wants to do another sport. He comes for the tactical side in terms of decision-making, you will hit a lot more balls when you are outside because there are just two of you. You will also cover a larger area, you will have to be more versatile, you have to know how to do everything, ”summarizes Marie-Louise Gareau.
For those who wish to join the league, three leagues will play on summer evenings, one for women and another for men at 2 against 2, as well as a mixed league at 4 against 4.
